What is the "Success with SHIELD" Program?
(1) SHIELD INTENSIVE COGNITIVE PHASE Program<-- BACK
- Duration: 194 hours (22 sessions)
- Includes full length lectures, daily test drills with rationalizations, test taking strategies, anxiety management, post tests.
- After each lecture, the coordinator will provide each student a paper to fill up and determine concepts vaguely discussed. The bottom 10 students in each subject will be invited for a 2-hour focus group discussion to strengthen the concepts and improve it with the best invited lecturers.

The SHIELD Comprehensive Course provides the students with a comprehensive discussion of the different concepts, principles, skills and attitudes needed for the practice of Nursing in the Philippines.
The students are also given a seminar on developing good study habits prior to the start of the review sessions.
Exams are given to the students at the middle and/or end of the class discussion for the different areas.
The students shall be evaluated using a variety of competency-based evaluation tools such as tests, in the middle and towards the end of the program, and Final Exam.
Individual monitoring on areas of strengths and weaknesses will be gauged to ensure balance in nursing examination performance and attendance.
Focus Group Discussion will be conducted by the in-house lecturers from the evaluated students who have weak areas on the subject. The discussion will be based on the vaguely presented topics filled out by students themselves during their didactics.

(2) SHIELD CRITICAL MENTAL ENHANCER (Psychomotor and Affective Phase Program)
- Duration: 104 hours (13 sessions)
- Includes test-manship, bullets of the must-knows in the NLE and motivational talks
- Nursing Pharmacology/Anatomy and Physiology/ Nursing Informatics/OR/ER/IMCI/ Diagnostic Procedures / Nutrition, Pain management, Geriatric Nursing / Basic Nursing Skills as separate subjects

The SHIELD Critical Mental Enhancer Program starts with a seminar on test-taking strategies which the students will eventually learn to utilize and practice during the review sessions. The program offers a wide range of assessment tools which expose the students to different types of questions of varying difficulty in the different competencies required in the course. Different test taking methodology is utilized in the implementation of the review of the answers. That is, after administering the 100-item examination, the rationale for the choices and correct answer is discussed with the students. Practice tests are given at the end of each session to reinforce learning.
Aside from the practice tests, the students are also given Pre-board Simulation Examination. The tests are given at the middle of the program and towards the end of the program. The Pre-board exam serves as mock board exam for the students. The rationale for the choices and correct answers for the Pre-Board Exam follows. A final coaching, where pertinent information about the NLE, final instructions on test taking and evaluation of their performance during the course of the program, are given to the students at the last session.
